When I was on the KANSAS CITY, my computer was an IBM System 6, which was pretty much a dedicated word processor with some database capability. It was all built-in to a console unit and had a monochrome monitor, a daisy wheel printer, and an 8" floppy drive. It was kind of fun to work with as the IBM PCs hadn't come out yet. About the only computer you could get for home at the time were the 16K systems (Timex sinclair, TI 49, etc.) and the TRS-80. I was doing everything with that thing including outstanding supply requisitions, recall bill, 3M and DC PQS, evals, 1149s, 250s, zone inspection reports, Ship's Manpower Document (SMD), personnel roster, command letters, 8 o'clock reports, and much, much more.
